The best part of having Cannabutter in your house is that you can infuse Cannabis in every food you cook by just adding this special kind of butter into it since so many recipes include butter as an ingredient. But before you are off to use Cannabis butter in your recipes, the Cannabis must be activated or, in other words, decarboxylated to maximise its effects and benefits. Cannabutter can transform a variety of cookies or just any recipe into a whole bunch of homemade edibles.
The recipe given below approximately transforms into 30 mg of THC/ tablespoon of butter. The appropriate dose may vary from person to person, but according to experts, 10 mg is a standard amount.
[Note: If you are a beginner and working with Cannabis for the first time, keep in mind that the effects of Cannabis take longer to settle in than when inhaling. After intaking your cannabis edibles, if your body does not feel comfortable, do not hesitate to change the amount of Cannabis into your edibles for good.]
Step 1
Decarboxylation
While experimenting with Cannabis by infusing it into your recipes, the most crucial part that is to be done is the ‘Decarboxylation’ method, also known as ‘Decarbing’. This word generally means a chemical reaction that moves carboxyl groups and releases carbon dioxide (CO2). Simply, this method refers to a reaction removing a carbon atom from a carbon chain. Therefore, when cooking Cannabis, you need to go through the decarboxylation method to ensure that your cannabis flowers are well activated and fully ready to be used in your recipes, i.e. the cannabis flowers are activated and transformed from inactivated cannabinoids (THCA and CBDA) into their activated forms (THC and CBD).
Performing this method will unlock the psychoactive effects of the cannabis flowers and will provide you with the best experience ever.
Below is detailed information on how you can perform this method at your home all by yourself.
Things you need –
- ½ oz (ounce) of your precious cannabis flowers
- Glass baking dish or any sheet pan will just do fine
- Butter paper or parchment sheets
- Cannabis grinder will be perfect, if not available scissors will also work
The Procedure-
- Preheat your oven to 22°F.
- Now, break your cannabis flowers into big chunks and spread it thoroughly into the parchment sheet or the butter paper.
- Smoothly slide it into the oven and bake it. [Remember– If you are working with old or low-quality weeds, the baking time must be no longer than 15-20 minutes; if you are using high-quality weed, the appropriate baking time for it will be 40-45 minutes; and if you are using something that is recently harvested, you must bake it up to an hour]
- After every 10 minutes, make sure to check on your cannabis buds and mix them up gently.
- Take the Cannabis out of the oven and let it cool down.
- Once your decarbed cannabis flowers are thoroughly cooled down, it’s time to grind those flowers and buds with the help of your weed grinder or scissors (whatever is available).
Now you know your cannabis flowers and buds are perfectly ready to be used in your recipes.
Step 2
The Cannabutter Recipe
The first and the most important thing you will be needing while making Cannabutter is your patience. As the process of making it is very much time consuming, we can assure you that after a good jar of cannabis butter will be ready to use, it will be worth every second you have spent making it.
The whole preparation of making Cannabis infused butter can take upto 4 hours. Experts says, the cannabis flowers takes a good amount of time to get infused in the fat and if it is not provided the adequate time, the flowers will catch bacteria that can destroy the edible you are making. The more the Cannabis emerges into the butter the potent your Cannabutter will be.
Things you need-
- 1 ½ cups of water
- ½ ounce of decarboxylated cannabis buds or flowers
- 8 ounces of butter
- Medium-sized saucepan
- Thermometer
- Wooden spatula
- Cheesecloth or a strainer
The Procedure-
- Take a medium-sized saucepan and put it on a very low flame.
- Pour the whole batch of butter you have taken (8 oz butter in this case), and wait patiently until it melts and looks like liquid gold.
- Now, through the well grinded decarboxylated Cannabis into the melted butter.
- Stir the mixture with steady hands and let it simmer gently for up to 4 hours.
- Make sure to check on your Cannabutter at an interval of 30 minutes and stir the mixture firmly.
- After a long period of 4 hours, its now time to strain the butter with a cheesecloth into a glass jar or a metal container.
- Let the Cannabutter cool at room temperature before putting it into the freezer. The butter can now be preserved upto 6 months if properly taken care of.
